Matt Goss won the 9th stage of the Giro d’Italia on a rain soaked day in Southern Italy.
With weather more resembling that of a Yorkshire winter than an Italian late spring day, forcing the peloton to navigate flooded sections of road, Mat Goss backed up Cavendish’s win yesterday, with a rare win of his own.
Goss, usually a part of the lead out train for the HTC squad, made the best of the harsh conditions and a slight up hill drag, beating Filippo Pozzato and Tyler Farrar to the win.
So continues a torrid Giro for the home nation, still without a win and coming under increased criticism by the press, however with Goss’ win, Australia seem to be relishing the inclement conditions. Today’s victory makes it 3 stage wins so far and 3 leaders’ jerseys being currently held by the nation.
